Museum with an extensive collection of Andy Griffith memorabilia plus an audio tour & a gift shop.

We decided to make the trip here and we were not disappointed. Lots to see and read. Touch screen interactive video clips and information is new. We saw , read and heard things we never knew. Beautiful tribute to a beloved actor. His life is well documented. We recommend you plan a day or two and come here. Beautiful town with wonder people.

It's a nice museum if you're old enough to remember Andy Griffith and most notably his namesake show. We enjoyed our visit a great deal. The building is small but the exhibits were nice and the clothing and other materials from the show put a smile on our face as we remembered a time far far away.

Larry Loveday — Google review

Such a wonderful museum. I visited with my Mother-in-law, Sister-in-law, and a great family friend. All 4 of us love and or grew up watching and still all these years later watch the Andy Griffith show. This museum was cherry on top of our visit to Mt Airy. We definitely recommend everyone who loves the show to visit the museum.

Jessica Smiley-Powell — Google review

Small, cute museum. Took us about 20 mins to complete once we got in (the line took 20 mins). It was a bit underwhelming due to its size, but we did enjoy all the Andy Griffith memorabilia, including his UNC-related items. I learned some things I didn't know about his time at my alma mater. And it was cool seeing the outfits from both The Andy Griffith Show and Matlock.

Jennifer Hollar — Google review

Took a day trip to Mount Airy & we just had to visit the Andy Griffith Museum. As children we loved his show so this was a must for my husband and myself. We made a day of it and went out to eat & enjoyed downtown Mount Airy.

JOSEPHINE LOCAL GUIDE — Google review

My wife gave me a special birthday present by taking me here. I am a huge fan of The Andy Griffith Show and I enjoyed seeing all of the memorabilia and actual props from the show. You will definitely learn a lot of things about Andy Griffith that you maybe have never known. This is a must visit place!!

Martin Silva — Google review

If you love the Andy Griffith Show like I do and if you're ever in Mt. Airy, NC, the city of Mt. Airy and the Andy Griffith Museum is a must place to stop and check out!The museumis a place both for learning about and celebrating Andy Griffith, who was born in Mount Airy in 1926. Home of the single largest collection of artifacts and memorabilia related to Andy Griffith, the museum features hundreds of items from Andy’s life and his career in theater, film, and music. Highlights of the collection include actual props, wardrobe, and other artifacts fromThe Andy Griffith ShowandMatlockthat were donated by Cindi and Andy Griffith, members of the casts and crews, and other individuals and organizations.A must see if in the area.

Ron Lamberth — Google review

As a lover of Matlock, I found great enjoyment out of the museum. It is a wonderful tribute to the life and career of Andy Griffith, and I enjoyed seeing all of the pieces! My husband's favorite show is the Andy Griffith Show and it was so fun to see him so excited when going through it.

Taylor Long — Google review

I think it was 8 dollars to get In per person which isn't too bad. I expected the museum to be bigger honestly but you did learn quite a bit about his life. Giving it 4 stars because it's kinda confusing on how to get there from the parking lot. Also the sidewalks are slippery even without rain so be careful.

Janice Marfiz — Google review

If you love Andy Griffith and want to see some of his childhood photos and memorabilia from his TV show, movies, and records there are many things on exhibit. Compared to some other museums I've been to, I wouldn't say this is interactive. There's one touch sensitive digital screen but even though it wasn't crowded when we were there, someone was always using it so we never got a chance to. I'd say that it's worth it to see, but a lot could be done to make it better-- Hologram images, clips from his TV show playing showing the actors wearing the clothing that's displayed rather than still photos, an interactive exhibit where people could choose to play songs from his records, a replica of the police station with the jail, etc. so people could sit at the desk, try out Otis's cell.

Bibi Belford — Google review

The Andy Griffith Museum is a small, but extremely well done museum dedicated to the life of Andy Griffith. It includes many artifacts from his childhood through his adult career. Some are more esoteric like a year book from when he was a music/drama teacher in the local high school. There are lots of things from his movies, Matlock, The Andy Griffith show, and his musical career. It is a relatively small space but one of the better organized and presented displays we have visited. It was under $10 a person when we visited. There was a steady stream of people for a Tuesday afternoon but it wasn’t crowded. There is a second exhibit area down the stairs in another building (The Surry Arts Council) which focuses more on the town and other characters including the career of Betty Lynn who played Thelma Lou on the show.

Jim Davenport — Google review

So many memories and such a great collection. I loved the handwritten notes from Andy with items he donated.

Michelle Gates — Google review

The Andy Griffith Museum in Mount Airy NC is a sweet little museum. This was a great visit with interactive monitors (Which my wife loved) and lots of keepsakes from the cast of the Andy Griffith Show. In addition it has some nice memorabilia from Andy Griffith's singing days and some of his other movies. There's more to see downstairs too. The museum doesn't take that long to visit, unless your wife likes to press every button on the AV displays like mine does, but it's just about right. Then, when you're done, take a visit down on main street for more souvenirs, visit Floyd's Barber Shop, and grab a Barnie Burger at Barney's Cafe. ...oh...oh... loved the coffee at "Page's Books and Coffee Shop". Really flavorful and not bitter. Sweet staff too! I really hope you found this review helpful! 😊

Michael Hagen — Google review

Great experience. It was fun to see all the old show props and learn more about Andy. A little small but fun. My teenage daughters both enjoyed it. The man working there was super friendly and really seemed to enjoy his job. It's nice to see someone who enjoys his job and kind.

Love this whole area Mt. Airy NC. I have loved Andy Griffith since I was a child and to be in his hometown was amazing. I highly recommend eating lunch at Snappy great food and great service.

Angela Crumm — Google review

The best site to see in Mt Airy if you are a fan of the show. First of all, don't miss the statue of Andy and Opie out front. Then, take your time as you visit the museum dedicated to the show. Colorful murals as well.

Jay Biddle — Google review

I enjoyed this museum. Should have been a little bigger. Great price of about $8 per person. Loved what I saw but the layout could have been a little better. Good walkways for handicapped individuals. Love Andy so I loved seeing this museum devoted to him. Also went to the gas station and the jail. Great experience that I would do again.

Dee Tee — Google review

Great place to visit if you like an old fashioned place dripping with southern hospitality and it’s just a bonus that Andy Griffith grew up there and modeled it after Mayberry!! I thought everyone was so nice in this town! I wish the rest of America would take a page out of the book of this town. Thank you and I love you ❤️ Mt. Airy

What a cool experience! It was a little crowded, which made getting photos a little more difficult. You can walk in the jail cell - pretty cozy, no wonder Otis felt at home. You can sit behind Sheriff Andy’s desk for a photo. There’s no admission charge, but donations are accepted. There are souvenirs available for purchase.Make sure you use the restroom elsewhere - their restrooms are out of order. According to a sign posted by “Gomer,” “you can use the outhouse.” - which is a port-a-potty.

If you are an Andy And Barney fan you definitely need to visit Mount Airy North Carolina and see the home Andy grew up in as a child. There’s a museum that’s totally awesome and a must see. You can walk the beautiful streets of Mount Airy and see the Mayberry Jail & Courthouse along with Wallys gas station, the Darlins house and truck, Goobers Wrecker the police car and more. See pictures. I highly recommended you visit. It’s just amazing.

Terrie Clayton — Google review

If you enjoyed the Andy Griffith show then you will enjoy the Courthouse and jail because it is like you stepped onto the set. You have a self guided tour of the space. When we visited on site bathroom was out of order. You can step I to the jail cells so fun picture opportunity.

April Williams — Google review

We had the most fun ever here! This is a great place to bring back memories of the show, and for taking pictures.

I really loved this place. The Gas station, courthouse, and gift shop was so much fun. I love Mayberry. The show is so good and being in this place was wonderful. Get a ride in the Sheriff’s car and get your Mayberry memorabilia. It is worth the visit! I would love to return to this place, worth the time!!“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We stayed in Mt Airy a couple of days. We wanted to hike Hanging Rock Staye Park and around Mt Pilot. We spent an afternoon touring the Andy Griffith show stuff in town. The jail was nice to see. We rented the Mayberry Front Porch for 3 nights. It was great. It is very clean and well-appointed and a great price. I highly recommend it. We also visited the Round Peak Vinyards, which was nice.

Kevin P — Google review

I am a longtime fan of TAGS. This is an amazing and impressive recreation of the sheriff's office set. If my wife and I had a TV show we would literally feel it would be a crossover.

Martin Silva — Google review

We went on a Sunday so perhaps that was why it was so boring. They were running Andy Griffiths police car rides, $50 a car load. But the wait was too long for our schedule that day. The car takes you around the neighborhood and to Andy's house. We drove there ourselves. It was fun to see the courthouse and the Darlings shack. There were a lot of cobwebs and no one is really keeping it up. But take your photos like we did and say you were there. :-)

Lauralei Knight — Google review

I was absolutely stunned by what I got to see .. Museum of Andy filled my ❤ n soul with pics n info I never knewWas amazing.. Highly reccomend walleys station because you have the Courthouse jail right next door..BONUS the darlins truck n much more.....YOU go n 👀 see you'll ❤ it

Nice, interesting, and informative/educational. Four floors of local history and culture. Reasonably priced, $6 person for entry, and an observation tower over the 4th floor that lets you see the country side for miles around. Would love to go back when I have more time.

Good Museum, great price. For only $6 it's 4 floors of history. The place is under construction in places so it was a little hard to navigate, but once completed I'm sure it will be great. Loved the observatory, but we almost missed it. You are given a map, but signage inside could be a little better. Overall, we had a great time and well worth the admission.

I've lived here 30+ years and sadly I must say, I had never been to the museum, but that changed 11-29-22. Myself, My Husband and some out of town friends went and Really Enjoyed Ourselves!! The history is very interesting and seeing all the displays is a treat! You Owe it to Yourself to go! The staff there, the day we went were so nice and very friendly! Go See Some Really Neat History - Mount Airy Museum! ❤️

This place is put together very well. Very clean and organized and full of information and history. There are multiple levels to the building packed with exhibits that might strike your interest from the granite quarry, local sports, music to automobiles. It’s excellent if you’re interested in the town of Mount Airy, but if you’re not it’s easy to just breeze through and waste your money. Otherwise I would highly recommend this place.

H Chesher — Google review

The first floor covers original Indian population and arrival of European settlers. The second floor is currently being remodeled. The third floor has some fashion and has a lot of info on Donna Fargo and Easter Brothers as well as a small amount about Andy Griffith. The fourth floor is also not complete. Entrance fee is $6 per person. At the time that I visited half of the museum is not complete. Museum is right on Main Street so parking is along street or public lots.
